‘How to Paint in the Style of Turner’ Art Workshops
May 26 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm£12
Northumberland Day is an opportunity for budding artists to head to Norham for an idyllic day spent learning how to paint in the style of JMW Turner.
Artists will set up easels provided for them, either outdoors or, in case of rain, in a gazebo on the banks of the River Tweed, overlooking Norham Castle, in this uplifting event being organised by Berwick Educational Association.
Under the watchful eye of tutor Gill Walton BA (Hons), those booking for these sessions will follow in the footsteps of Turner, painting from the spot where he is thought to have stood to sketch and paint Norham Castle. All will pay close attention to how he worked and will use the same colours from his palette, but will create their own work.
Tutoring will cover composition, how to produce the initial sketch from which to work and how to layer colour in the Turner style.
Two sessions are running and there are 10 places in each. People may book both, if they wish, and the sessions are really suitable for beginners to intermediate painters, but more experienced artists are welcome. Participants should bring sketch materials, watercolour paints, sketch paper and possibly also stretched watercolour paper on a board, which would be useful for their final painting. Sun hats and sunscreen may also be needed!
Session 1 runs from 10am to 12.30pm and session 2 is from 1pm to 3.30pm.
