Northumberland Day Sport Festival
After running two previously successful events for previous Northumberland Days, Smile Through Sport are celebrating Northumberland Day 2019 with another sport festival for people with a disability. Sports that those with a disability can play or try are boccia, cricket, tennis and volleyball, so get that competitive head on and have some fun learning, or improving at playing these sports. Northumberland College will be heading to the businesses working with its apprentices and taking photos that will celebrate their work and the beautiful county. The 2018 winner of our 'Northumbie' award for 'Best Foodie Event or Initiative', A Taste of Northumbria, will be launching a brand new beer called Oswald's Whiteblade, to coincide with the Northumberland Day weekend and another one to celebrate a Northumbrian heritage hero - St Aidan's beer. The Northumberland Kayak Fishing Competition is returning for the third year, this year being held on Saturday May 25 - the day before Northumberland Day. The event is a fundraiser for the RNLI and regularly sees well over 30 to 40 kayak anglers fishing each year. The event promotes safety on the water, good conduct and fish conservation and welcomes everyone from experienced kayak angler to beginner, although there is a minimum kit requirement, on safety grounds.
